A victory lap for Intel

With the first batch of WilliWidgets Collection apps coming this Fall, we have one major announcement that has been in our minds for a while, when will we stop supporting Intel...

The Apple Silicon transition started in 2020, and its revolutionized the computing sphere, that WilliWidgets would likely not exist at all if it wasnt for Apple Silicon... We have all of the resources for testing WilliWidgets and The WilliWidgets Collection Apps on Apple Silicon, not much on Intel at all.

Over 90% of Mac users who use our apps are using Apple Silicon.

On September 1, 2026, Apple announced that we can now ship apps on Apple Silicon exclusively. We thought hard about this, and realized, its time to move on from Intel. Testing times will be a lot faster if we are working exclusively on the Apple Silicon version of these apps.

Because all Apple Silicon Macs run macOS 15, and theres not much controversy with macOS 15, we have also ultimately decided that we will raise the minimum software requirements to iOS 18 and macOS 15, with visionOS 2 already going to be required with the release of WilliStudy 5. We also acknowledge that 3 iPad models will be dropped with WilliStudy and will commit to making WilliStudy v5.2 and WilliDreams v2.2 a final great version.

Now when are these changes happening? For WilliStudy, the last Intel version will be v5.2 and for WilliDreams it will be v2.2. After this, starting with WilliStudy v5.3 and WilliDreams v2.3, they will require an Apple Silicon Mac, or a device that can run iOS 18 and later, or on Vision Pro (we remain committed to supporting WilliStudy on the Vision Pro)

One more thing, ALL features in WilliStudy v5.1, v5.2, WilliDreams v2.1, and v2.2 will be Apple Silicon only. On Intel, you can expect final bug fixes and enhancements only. We want to leave Intel Macs and the 3 iPad models that we are dropping on a very solid state so they can still use these apps for years to come.

WilliWidgets Classic is currently in maintainence mode, and will continue to support Intel. All future WilliWidgets Collection apps will only support Apple Silicon. Shrive starting with v2.2 will require iOS 18 and later.
